Good afternoon, everyone:
On September 12, we hosted our annual Veterans Resources Expo & Fellowship Lunch at the Tobie Grant Recreation Center in Scottdale. This event is very close to my heart and it is always a great privilege for me to fellowship with others who have answered the call of service to this country.
For many soldiers, acclimating to home life after returning from war can seem like a battle in and of itself. September is Suicide Awareness Month, as well as Mental Health Awareness month, and we had multiple partners present this year who are dedicated to raising this awareness and providing suicide prevention resources to anyone struggling with their mental health. There is light at the end of that proverbial tunnel. Sometimes it is hidden from our view and we need help to see it. I want to extend my sincere gratitude for the work these organizations are doing in supporting the brave men and women who have served in our armed forces to realize there is hope and a positive path forward. (Dial 988 to access the Veterans crisis line.)
Additionally, I would like to thank all the individuals and agencies who helped to make the event a great success:

September is also Senior Center Month. In celebration, I encourage all senior members of our community to check out a DeKalb senior center. It's important to stay active as we age, and taking up a new hobby by enrolling in a class or sport at one of these centers is a great way to do this. As an added benefit, it presents a wonderful opportunity to meet your neighbors and even make some new friends. To locate a senior center most convenient to you and see all they have to offer, visit www.dekalbcountyga.gov/human-development/multi-purpose-senior-centers.

As always, thank you to the citizens of District 4 and DeKalb County for affording me this opportunity to serve. It is indeed an honor.
