Good Afternoon, Everyone:
On April 27 we held our second Quarterly in the Fourth Community Breakfast Meeting for 2024. We have been holding these meetings since January of 2018 for the purpose of sharing essential information with the community and hearing directly from the community. In a nutshell, it is about being accessible.
I would like to thank Public Safety Director Jack Lumpkin and Rebecca Guinn from LifeLine Animal Project for providing the community with important information about the shelter. Additionally, professionals were on hand to provide microchipping and spay and neutering information.
I also want to thank the department heads from the administration who have been supporting my Q4 Breakfast meetings since the beginning. Our constituents are their constituents as well. And it is important that the departments also get to hear directly from the people that they serve and not just us elected officials.
On May 2 it was indeed an honor to attend CEO Michael Thurmond’s final State of the County Address at Assembly Studios. CEO Thurmond spent most of his address thanking the various people who have helped him govern during his two terms in office. In turn, I would like to thank CEO Thurmond for providing DeKalb County with the leadership and stability that we were desperately in need of when he took office.
I have had the pleasure of attending all eight of CEO Thurmond’s State of the County Addresses. Let me state for the record that it has been an honor to serve as a member of this governing authority with him.
On May 6 it was great to drop by the Senior Olympics ceremony at the Exchange Intergenerational Center in South DeKalb. It was great to interact with our seniors and observe their vibrancy. I would like to thank our Human Services Department for managing this and other events in DeKalb County.
On May 8 I attended the DeKalb County Fallen Officers Memorial Ceremony. This is always a solemn event where we honor those who have given their lives in the line of duty to protect the citizens of DeKalb County. I am grateful to all the brave men and women who serve in our public safety functions. And it makes me proud that we take the time every year to remember those who have fallen. I commend Director Lumpkin, Police Chief Mirtha Ramos and all those who risk their lives to keep us safe.

As always, I will conclude my remarks by thanking the citizens of District 4 and DeKalb County for affording me this opportunity to serve. It is indeed an honor.
