Good Afternoon, Everyone:
I will begin my comments today by giving a shout out to my friend Gwen Stegall, who was the recipient of a Park Pride Inspiration Award. This award honors community leaders whose efforts are invaluable to the collective intention to make all parks great parks, and to make them accessible to all metro Atlanta residents and visitors. Gwen has done an amazing job as the group leader of Friends of Hairston Park, and I am overjoyed by the fact that her tremendous efforts have been recognized in this manner. Because of Gwen and the entire group, one of my first allocations of Park Bond Funds was to Hairston Park. I love how they have been able to leverage my allocation to receive other funding from other sources. Now Hairston Park is truly a destination spot in District 4. I am so proud of Gwen as an amazing representative for The Friends of Hairston Park and I congratulate her on her award.
On March 14 it was an honor to attend the State of the DeKalb School System Address by Superintendent Dr. Devon Horton. He did an excellent job in outlining his intent for the future of our school system. I have long held the view that the leaders of DeKalb County’s Governing Authority and the leaders of our school system should have a very close working relationship, and I shared this with Dr. Horton when we had our initial one-on-one meeting last fall. I think that we are in sync. And I look forward to being supportive of his efforts in any way possible.
On March 17 it was a pleasure to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at ART Station in Stone Mountain for their Raising of the Green event. This is an annual fundraiser to support the work of this great institution in the heart of District 4. In the past I have enjoyed attending various productions at ART Station. Additionally, I have held my annual appreciation reception for my board appointees at this beautiful facility. And my office has also allocated $50,000 in discretionary funds to support their efforts. The food was great and the atmosphere was fun. I am already looking forward to next year!
On March 23 it was great to join my friends in the Mainstreet Community for their Crimewatch Meet-N-Greet. Mainstreet is one of the great communities in District 4. This event was designed to raise awareness and provide information about public safety issues in the community. I would like to thank all the DeKalb County Departments who participated. Additionally, I would like to commend and thank On-Site Property Manager Nadine Rivers-Johnson and Board Chair Patrice Diamond for hosting this great event.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call my office at 404-371-4749, or visit my website at commissionerbradshaw.com. Follow me on all the major social media platforms for updates between the meetings, too.
As always, I will conclude my remarks by thanking the citizens of District 4 and DeKalb County for affording me this opportunity to serve. It is indeed an honor.
